What is the project

Blast launched as an L2 on Ethereum and described itself as "the chain with native yield". According to the vision post in its blog archive, the project said it had become the sixth largest onchain economy within four months. Its documentation describes mechanisms such as automatic rebasing for ETH and USDB held in the bridge, claiming yield, and sharing.

The project's reward programme consisted of two phases. According to the blog posts, 10 billion BLAST was allocated for the second phase, half of it directed to user Points and the rest to Gold distributed to support application development. In January 2025 it was announced that operations had been consolidated into a single structure and that Blast Mobile had opened; February 2025 posts gave yield rates for USDB and ETH together with their sources.

What the project says

On 2 October 2026 at 14:45 UTC, the project's official X account announced the shutdown. The reason given is directly economic: according to the post, the economics of operating the chain no longer make sense, because the ongoing cost of maintaining Blast exceeds the revenue the L2 generates.

There is a limit here and the reader needs to know it: the whole of that thread is not in our sources. The text of the announcement post cuts off mid-sentence and the thread's intermediate posts did not enter the sources reviewed. The shutdown timetable, what will happen to bridged assets, and what users need to do are therefore not written in the sources this article relies on. They may be in those intermediate posts.

The thread's final post carries a warning, and that warning is exactly the kind a reader can use: the project asks people to be wary of accounts attempting to impersonate it, and states that its official X account is @BLAST. Because shutdown announcements are fertile ground for impersonation accounts, that sentence matters as much as the announcement itself.

Token

The BLAST token sat at the centre of the reward programme: the amount allocated for the second phase and the distribution ratios are written in the blog posts. Against that, no contract address for the token traced to the official account could be found in the sources reviewed, and no market source could be read. Per the rules no contract address is published in this article, and we have no statement about the token's status after the shutdown.

One note from the archive is worth recording: in the documentation navigation the Points API is marked "retired", meaning the reward programme's technical interface had already been taken out of use before the announcement.

What to watch

Three things are open and all three for the same reason: the whole of the announcement thread is not in our sources. The shutdown timetable, the route to follow for assets held in the bridge, and the status of the BLAST token. For these three the full thread on the project's own official account must be read; that will be the first thing added when this article is updated.

And one signal from the operational side: in May 2025 the project announced that it would not renew its agreement with the service provider giving interface access to multisig wallets. How access to administrative wallets works during the shutdown process is another heading not written in the sources.

Conclusion

Blast's reason for shutting down is described in economic terms in its own announcement: the cost of operating the chain exceeds its revenue. What is missing for the reader today is not the reason but the procedure: the announcement thread in our sources is incomplete, and the part saying what happens to assets is inside that incomplete half.
