Hunter Biden announced $LAPTOP: no contract address, and copies have already traded $6.9 million

Hunter Biden announced $LAPTOP, due on Base on 9 September. The announcement carries no contract address, website or launch venue, and Biden has not published the tokenomics himself. The first copycat carrying the same name appeared roughly a minute before the story broke; 22 more pools followed over the next 53 minutes, and at least 14 distinct tokens traded $6.9 million between them. With no official address, none of them can be the announced token.

Hunter Biden announced $LAPTOP: no contract address, and copies have already traded $6.9 million

In brief

On 7 September 2026 Hunter Biden posted the ticker $LAPTOP and the date September 9 from his X account, alongside a 31 second Fox News clip. The post drew 250,900 views in its first hour. The token is set to launch on Base, Coinbase's Ethereum layer 2 network.

For our purposes one sentence matters most:

"His X post carries no contract address, website or launch venue."

There is no contract address. No website, no launch venue.

The announced allocation

Total supply is 1 billion tokens, described as follows:

  • 30% to founders, Hunter Biden among them; these are locked for six months and then unlock gradually over two years.
  • 20% to an airdrop: subscribers to Biden's Substack, members of Andrew Callaghan's Channel 5 mailing list, and traders who lost money on TRUMP.
  • 20% for charity, liquidity and exchange costs.
  • 30% earmarked for burning, tied to preset conditions such as Bitcoin hitting a new all time high or a Democrat winning in 2028. Allocations whose conditions are not met are donated to charity rather than burned.

All of this is the plan as described, not something measured. There is no token on chain yet that anyone could verify. And Biden has not published the tokenomics himself: the figures come from the Journal's report.

The first copy landed a minute before the story

The first token named LAPTOP appeared on Robinhood Chain at 14:50 UTC, roughly a minute before the Journal's markets account posted the story. Twenty-two more pools followed over the next 53 minutes. Spread across Robinhood Chain, Solana, TON and BNB Chain, they cover at least 14 distinct tokens. None is on Base, and none launches on 9 September.

By 15:45 UTC they had traded roughly $6.9 million between them. The largest, on Robinhood Chain, took $5.43 million of volume over 31,878 trades in a single pool, paired against SGOV, the tokenized short dated Treasury ETF.

The logic here is not open to debate: since the announcement carries no contract address, none of the $LAPTOP tokens trading right now can be the announced one. That is not a prediction, it follows from the announcement itself.

One of the accounts spreading the news on X ends its post the same way: until there is a single canonical contract address, every $LAPTOP you see should be treated as fake. On this one the aggregator and our own reading land in the same place.

Launch day carries a separate confusion

A LAPTOP token unrelated to this announcement has traded on Base since 27 June. It rose 54% on Monday to a market capitalization of $51,908. The announced token is also due on Base, on 9 September. So on launch day at least two things on the same network will carry the same ticker, and interfaces will show both as "LAPTOP".

What this article did not verify

This is a news piece, not our own scan. The figures come from two news outlets; the contract text was not seen, so whether the lock and burn conditions are actually written into it could not be checked. Hunter Biden's post was not opened and verified in a browser either; its content and view count come from reporting. The copycat count, their networks and their volume rest on a single source and were not measured by us. Who deployed the LAPTOP token that has traded on Base since June was not examined.

Risks

Biggest uncertainty The allocation, lock and burn conditions are the plan as described; none can be verified while the contract is unpublished.

  • Until an address is published, treat everything as fake. This article gives no contract address, because there is no verified address to give.
  • Launch is the most dangerous moment. The minute a real address appears, lookalike addresses multiply. No address goes anywhere near a wallet before it is confirmed from the project's own official account.
  • The same ticker already exists on Base. Searching a ticker is not a substitute for verifying an address.
  • The allocation is still only a plan. Whether the lock and burn conditions are actually written into the contract cannot be checked until the contract is published.
